Freema Agyeman – alias Martha Jones is sacked from Dr.Who
27 year old Ex-Crossroads actress is replaced next series say bosses

The BBC have ended Dr.Who actress Freema Agyeman’s contract after just one series claiming that she has failed to excite audiences and that her performance is not up to scratch.

The character of Martha Jones will be written out of this current series in a story line that involves her disappearing into outer space with the Dr searching for her throughout the universe.

Freema Agyeman 27, joined the all new BBC1 sci-fi hit Dr.Who as the Timelord’s new companion Martha Jones after Billie Piper quit the role last year but producers say that Freema’s earlier performances were much stronger and that audience figures have dwindled since she joined.

The young actress has been immensely popular with audiences claim young fans “I  think Freema is better than Billie Piper” said one young fan “She has a different style which has brought a new dimension to the time lords assistant, it’ll be a shame if she does go”.

Insiders are saying that Freema was struggling with the role of Martha early on but regained her confidence after the second month of filming. Unfortunately things have been tricky on set and she has had to take some time off due to personal reasons.

Freema Agyeman was born in 1979 and her first on-screen success was in the ITV soap opera Crossroads as Chef trainee and celebrity wannabe Lola Wise.

Born in London to an Iranian mother and a Ghanaian. She landed the part of Martha Jones after being fooled into thinking she was auditioning for a guest role in Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood. Agyeman had previously portrayed Martha Jones's cousin Adeola Oshodi, who was killed by the Cybermen in Doctor Who episode Army of Ghosts.

She attended the Anna Scher Theatre School in Islington and later she attended Middlesex University and graduated in 2000 with BA (Honours) in Performing Arts and Drama. She also studied at Radford University in Virginia, United States.

I am a relative newcomer to Doctor Who (new series - watched all of the previous doctors from John Pertwee to Colin Baker) but have just purchased series 1-3 of the "new" series and watched them in a relatively short period of time. I liked Billie Piper before I saw her in Doctor Who but have to say that I think Freema's "Martha" assistant is far more believable than Billie's "Rose" assistant. Billie was a bit chavvy whereas Martha is sassy and intelligent

Here in this Aussie household we absolutely adored Freema as Martha Jones!
Ridiculous

I'm sorry, but I can't even take this article serously. Firstly, you've stated rumours like they're complete fact. Freema is not leaving the show completely. She's doing a guest stint for three episodes on Torchwood and then joining the Doctor and Catherine Tate about halfway through season 4, according to the BBC.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/news/cult/news/drwho/2007/07/04/46831.shtml

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/6260374.stm

Secondly, the idea that she's not as strong an actress as Billie Piper or that "her performance is not up to scratch" is personal opinion. Your source for this isn't verified, or even slightly alluded to for that matter. Freema has "gained rave notices for her portrayal of Martha Jones", again according to the BBC press office.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pressreleases/stories/2007/07_july/02/who.shtml

Also, the idea of Martha disappearing into outer space leaving the Doctor searching is nowhere near what actually happened at the end of series 3. And again, there's no verified source. Martha ending up saving the world in "The Last of the Time Lords" is hardly getting lost in space.

The next time you write an article, especially such a scathing and unjust one, make sure your facts are verified and stated. Or just don't write again. Please.

On a seperate note, thank you to the person who contributed the comment under "Freema sacked? Of course not". Just comments, a verified site, and something other than what can probably be taken to court as slander.
Billie who . . ?

Martha is a far more uplifting character than Rose; she's training to be a doctor (lower case) which surely makes her a good role model. She may not be the finest companion the Doctor's ever had but she's certainly not the worst (that honour must got to ...) I intend to buy the series 3 box set, though I haven't bought series 1 and 2, and if Freema is sacked I won't buy series 4, especially if the person I hear is replacing her IS replacing her! Mind you, if that's the case I might never watch DW ever again!!
Nonsense

How can you call this a news story? It has no one piece of hard evidence, and what is presented can be easily challenged.
Rating have NOT dwindled, and audience appreciation figures have been consistently excellent for this series.

Its the gay guy running doctor who, he want's some hot male companion for the doctor no doubt!

The reason the ratings have been going down are BECAUSE THE SCRIPTS SUCK! Not because of he, she is brilliant together with Tennant.
Dwindling figures and writing out.

The fact that the series is filmed out of sequence, and all but completed before it begins to air, seems to make the claims seem even less credible. Like the departure of Christopher Eccleston, there is always the chance that it was only ever a one year contract with an encompassing story arc. Whether Martha is written out and Freema leaves, which I very much hope isn't the case, then it would obviously be the program makers desire to surprise us. We were robbed of the regeneration surprise at the end of the first series, so why can't the press just let people enjoy Doctor Who, and let us actually have a shock or surprise that people have worked long and hard to produce. Shame on them for being that stupid.

I Like Her

I was prepared to say she was nothing but a pretty face before her first appearance on the show but I think she has been terrific. I love how she immediately fell for the Doctor and look forward to seeing how that all plays out.

In every interview I've seen from her, she seems utterly delightful and I look forward to seeing much more from her.

All I have to say is read this (response posted on Freema's website!):
On a day where Freema should be celebrated in the press for her lovely first appearance on Friday Night With Jonathan Ross, it instead has been horribly ruined by the cruelty of a tabloid desperate for attention by any means. While we are not an official voice for Freema, we would like to at least express our outrage against The Sun’s nonsense.

Having failed to cash in on their attempts to damage her established co-star, David Tennant, by trying to ignite and ride on rumours of his impending departure from Doctor Who, “The Sun” has turned their eye to a far easier target, an actress who has just barely gotten her momentum going in mainstream media and therefore can less easily defend herself.

Freema had been their darling until recently and they could not print enough nice things to say about her. But she seems to have outlived her usefulness to them since every other paper was also praising her and their voice was being drowned out. So “The Sun” has changed their tactics, now forming their words into a knife and trying to plunge it into her career for no apparent reason but for their own depraved gossip and readership numbers.

Rest assured, there is an ever growing list of logical reasons why what they say is hopelessly incorrect and full of falsehoods, including a recent statement* by Russell T. Davies that he hasn’t even written the Christmas Special yet, let alone any of series four. But The Sun made one glaring mistake in their attempt to trash Freema: there is no-one in the BBC that high in authority who would ever talk to them on that kind of topic. It just wouldn’t happen. Such a person would lose their lucrative job in a heartbeat, it wouldn’t be worth risking discovery.

To attempt to poison Freema’s fanbase by eroding the will to commit to her character emotionally is nothing short of a crime in our book. It’s bad behaviour expected from a bully, not from any entity claiming to be “press”.

So in conclusion, all we can do is ask you to boycott The Sun. There is simply no reason to read it anyway and if this is going to be their new trend why do you need such negativity in your day? Entire towns have successfully boycotted The Sun, we dare say a fandom can do so as well. We are compiling a list of their associated products and companies to boycott, as well as previous claims by them that were complete fabrications so that you may more readily defend yourself against their rubbish and will publish it as soon as reasonably possible. Ask your friends and family to join this action.

I have mixed views...

I think she's definitley brought a new flavour into Dr.Who. However, I absolutley adored Billie and was sooo sad to see her go, Dr.Who is not the same without her :(
In other words.....

similiar to what they did with Tegan at the end of Season 19 and the start of Season 20. Looks like RTD is brrowing an idea first devised by JN-T.
Not Being Written Out

"The character of Martha Jones will be written out of this current series in a story line that involves her disappearing into outer space with the Dr searching for her throughout the universe."

What this means is the series is ending on a ciffhanger. In the next series, the Doctor will find Martha again. If she was being written out, her departure would be much more conclusive.
